Circa 1860 Cast Iron Rail Finial, for a hitching post, in the form of hand holding a sphere atop a rope turned base, the ball is pierced for holding a hitching rail, 13" high, 12 1/2" wide (with cross bar) x 5 1/2". Oxidized surface. Provenance: Ex-collection of Phil and Bunny Savino; with copies of pages from a 2008 exhibition of 19th c. cast iron hitching posts at the Albany Institute of History & Art at which this piece was displayed.
