- Lot Description
Patriotic Portrait of the American Eagle, oil on panel, unsigned, circa 1870. Depicts a bald eagle on a rocky outcropping, the sea behind. The eagle's head is painted in fine detail, his wings up and swept to the right. Low horizon green sea under white clouds, with a single stack double turret monitor warship with two masts and bowsprit in profile to the right. Draped American flag provides bracket upper right. In a period lemon gold molded frame, OS: 16 1/2" x 14", SS: 13 1/2" x 10 3/4". Mellow age patina with minor losses to the original surface.
