Sarcophagus Form Floor Standing Cellarette, circa 1820, in highly figured flame mahogany with ebony stringing, having a compound molded hinged top, fluted canted corners, bowed body, molded base, set on cocked volute feet, retaining the original complex lead lining, brass lion head lift rings on ends, lock with two keys. 20 1/2" x 34" x 20 1/4". Very good condition.
Includes a 2002 letter from Moxhams Antiques of Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire stating that the pencil inscription inside the lid "Aprl 24th, 1819 William Emmitt of B. Banks Cellarette Maker, Litchfield Street, London" refers to Benjamin Banks, Cabinet and Case Maker, No. 3, Litchfield Street, London, in business from 1817 to 1827.
