"The Rape of Ganymede", oil on linen, unsigned, depicting Zeus in the form of an eagle taking the most beautiful boy, from Mount Ida near Troy in Phrygia, where he was a shepherd, to serve as the Cupbearer to the Gods on Mount Olympus. His puzzled dog and sparse possessions remain behind. Housed in a black and gold frame with silver detailing, OS: 19" x 15", SS: 15 1/2" x 11 1/2". Fine craquelure. Includes photo of the same subject, a drawing by Michelangelo that is in the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard, Panofsky Studies in Iconology.
