Early 19th c. Two-Part Desk with upper cabinet having a slant front, the whole decorated in red lacquer ground with black and raised gold decoration; on the slant front of a woman entering a garden with bridge, two temples, flowering branch with two herons in the foreground, the sides in matching theme; the top ledge with a mountain landscape. Pull-out battens support the hinged writing surface, which features blossoms, birds and butterflies. At the back are three cubbies flanked by hinged cabinet doors (one with broken hinge) over three small drawers. The matching stand with molded receiver, single drawer with Chippendale brasses, raised on square legs with tracery brackets, 30" to writing surface, 38" x 30" x 21" overall. Scuffs, minor losses, some restoration to chinoiserie finish.
