- Lot Description
Dogon, Mali, West African Granary Door, hand carved from exotic African hardwood boards, with carvings depicting stylized ancestral figures. The granary bins were located high on a wall to keep the grain dry and free of contaminants, so they would make each door a unique piece of the "art" on the wall of their hut. This door has a working carved wooden latch on one side and peg style hinges on the other. 25" x 17" door, 29 1/2" tall at pin hinges.
