- Lot Description
(4) Piece Lot of ca. 1820-30 Clews Staffordshire Dark Blue Transferware depicting American historical scenes, including: Two-handled Sauce Tureen and Underplate, 'The Landing of Lafayette' (at Castle Guard in New York, 16th August 1822), Tureen with impressed Clews mark to base, tureen: 5 1/2" high, 8 1/4" x 4 7/8", underplate: 9 3/4" x 5 5/8", large corner chip to lid, small glaze flakes to underside of tureen handles; (2) 8 3/4" diam. Plates, "The Landing of Lafayette", both with impressed Clews mark, one with tiny rim flake; and (1) 8 1/2" diam. Plate, "Commodore MacDonough's Victory", with impressed Clews mark, good condition.
