Cynthia Grieve, Marie Veau, 2020, Mixed Media, 2.5" x 2.5" Marie was a Louisiana Creole practitioner of Voodoo, an herbalist, and a midwife who was renowned in New Orleans. She practiced conjuring as well as Native American and African spiritualism. She was a free woman of color and revered by her community. She is presented here in howlite, alter cloth, shells, pearls, brass and a miyuki beaded snake.New
