Teller's Tales, New Series No. 5. An account of the shipwreck of the barque Charles Eaton on the Great Barrier Reef off Cape York in 1834, and the subsequent fight for survival by two young boys, John Ireland (the cabin boy) and William Doyley (the son of a passenger). Ireland and Doyley were ultimately the only two souls to be rescued by Europeans; other survivors of the wreck were either murdered by local Aborigines or traded by them to neighbouring groups. "This "True Narrative" published for juvenile readers is very rare" FERGUSON 4078a (Addenda, 1784-1850, Volumes I to IV)
Wrappers worn and fragile with vernacular stitching to spine. Contemporary previous owner's inscription. A few dog-eared corners, scattered foxing and a few short edge tears. A complete copy of a fragile and scarce children's book. Fair Condition.
