Vellum Scrapbook, 1867
31cm x 20cm. [260] pages. Full vellum.
A vellum bound scrapbook with London Customs gilt stamped and manuscript title No 5. Lockers Orders to the upper board. Compiled by Lucy Murphy, identified and dated by her manscript entry to the endpaper. Containing copius manuscript text throughout, with plentiful engravings and cuttings, some hand coloured, and 1 original painting. Commencing with an Essay on Woman, it contains numerous manuscript entries on various topics of society, religion, and philosophy, with accompanying engravings. There are several portrait entries including Francois Pilatre de Rozier, Duke of Wellington, Angelica Kauffmannn, Lady Jane Gray, Anna Seward, and others. Australian content includes engravings of early Sydney and a cassowary.
Vellum tanned and soiled. Upper hinge cracked, front free endpaper loose. Some pages with the clipping removed. The first 209 pages with manuscript pagination indicating a few missing leaves. Fair Condition.
