Lot of 3 photo albums, being:
1. TOOWOOMBA / DARLING DOWNS. Large album of 63 photographs and 23 greeting cards, ca. 1910 - 1920 relating to the Flegler and Ziesemer families.
Includes many portraits and photographs of houses, the Pittsworth hotel, Cecil Plains station, Enoggera military camp (1915) and more. More than half the photographs with some damp-creasing, about 10 very faded.
2. NEW SOUTH WALES. An unusual and idiosyncratic photograph album compiled by van driver and amateur trick cyclist W. J. Lawson in 1940 and 1941.
Album with card covers (25 x 33 cm) containing altogether 142 photographs, almost all small snapshots measuring mostly 5 x 7 cm, almost all captioned.
Lawson, originally from Orange, travelled with Lennon’s Musical Revue through country NSW, Victoria and Queensland in 1941 and some of the photographs were taken during this tour.
Includes over 100 photographs taken in country towns, including Mt Isa, Maitland and Mildura ("Mildura’s first swimming pool", "Dipping sultaners [sic] and currants"). There are three photographs of "Midget cars at Wellington, NSW" and six of the Newcastle "ANZAC Parade" (probably ANZAC Day march). There are also three photographs of Lawson on his bike and doing his push bike act (images not very sharp). Also includes many photographs of Lawson’s family and friends.
A photograph on the last page of the album is captioned "Myself W J Lawson taken in front of home at Orange NSW". Another on the second-last page is captioned "Front view of the coach I drove for Lennon’s in 1941". The photograph shows a large trailer with lettering Lennon's Musical Revue (partly obscured by truck doors) with large cane trunks with Lennon’s on the side on the ground. The photograph is captioned "Bogged in Victoria while I was with Lennon’s Revue in 1941".
The second section of the album includes 31 photographs of Newcastle. These appear to have been taken by a professional photographer. They show coal and ore ships, the inside of a wire rope factory and steel mill, as well as beach scenes and buildings. There are also a number of newspaper and magazine cuttings throughout the album.
3. OLGA MÜLLER of BRISBANE.
Card album with 184 snap shot photographs plus 17 loosely tipped-in photographs, ca. 1930s. The back of the album has been used to paste in a couple of pencil drawings and Sunday Mail award certificate labels.
Photographs include Physical Culture, family snaps, Tamborine Mountain views, Uncle's Farm Ulong South Dorrigo, Dorrigo District, Grafton and Clarence River, Yulgilbar 'Castle' homestead (here mis-spelled Uglebar), Armidale, Coffs Harbour.
