London: The Gresham Publishing Company, 1905-.
27cm x 20cm. xviii, x, x. 512, xii, xiv, xiv, 491, x, xii, x, 610 pages, 8 pages of advertisements in each volume, no advertisements in volume 3, black and white illustrations, plates, some in colour, frontispieces, folding tables, 9 volumes. Green art nouveau publisher's cloth, gilt lettering. Volumes 1 & 2 published 1905, volume 3, 1906, volumes 4-9, no date.Comprehensive manual of the horse, covering biology, health, disease, treatment, origin, development, varieties, breeding and training. "Written in simple language, it was clearly aimed at the general reader rather than the veterinary specialist". Illustrations and photographs are frequent, alongside detailed anatomical and pathological lithographs and engravings. The Art Nouveau style binding was designed by Talwin Morris, a promoter of the "Glasgow style".
Board edges rubbed, some joints with splits and chunks missing. Some cloth mottled. A few loose pages, but the interiors mostly clean, the occasional soil. Poor Condition.
