Emigration Map of Queensland constructed from the Most Recent Sureys and Explorations
Edinburgh: W. & A. K. Johnston, 1865.
First Edition.
69.5cm x 51cm (sheet size) folded to 18cm x 13cm. Lithographed map in colour, dissected and laid on linen, housed in a gilt-lettered and decorated green cloth folder.A rare separately issued map of the fledgling colony of Queensland. Inset maps of the Australian continent and the world (showing the sea route from Liverpool to Brisbane, taking on average 94 days), informative note about the history of the fledgling colony (founded only a few years prior in 1859), immigration statistics, exports, and detail about the capital Brisbane (with a population of 12,000 in 1864), with advertisements printed on salmon paper for Johnston's series of Emigration maps to the Australasian colonies pasted inside. Not in Tooley.
Some splitting along edges and folds. Minor foxing. Good Condition.
