London: Edward Stanford, 1863.
155cm x 174cm folding to 27.5cm x 23cm. Hand coloured steel engraved map, dissected into 48 sections, laid onto linen edged with blue silk, within original embossed black morocco boards, gilt lettering and decoration.First published in 1859, this edition of Stanford's Map of Australasia shows additions to 1863 indicating railways, roads, submarine telegraph lines, and tracks of explorers such as Gregory (1858), John McDouall Stuart (1860), and Burke and Wills (1861). The eastern part of the Malay archipelago, New Guinea, New Britain, New Ireland, the Solomons, the New Hebrides, and New Caldeonia are included. 5 copies of the 1863 edition recorded in OCLC, only two copies in Australian libraries (National Library of Australia and University of Melbourne Library).
Boards rubbed. Spine tail chipping, small split to upper joint at crown. Good Condition. Internally the map is in Very Good Condition, minor wear along the top fold and minor rubbing to the most top left section.
