Nursery Lyrics
London: Bliss, Sands & Foster, 1893.
First Edition.
19cm x 14cm. viii, 92 pages, black and white illustrations. Illustrated cloth, bevelled edges.Jane Maria Strachey, known in her time as Lady Strachey or Mrs Richard Strachey, after her husband Lieutenant General Sir Richard Strachey, was an advocate for women's right to vote, involving her children in campaigning, and she remained a vocal advocate of women's rights until her death in 1928. She also published two children's books, and this is the second. Full of whimsical, imaginative lyric poetry, it is reminiscent of Wilde's stories for his children, and is beautifully illustrated throughout by G. P. Jacomb Hood.
Moderate soiling to cloth. Small cursive owners name written on endpaper verso. Occasional light foxing and finger soil marks. Good Condition.
