  I set out to capture the effects elements have on various surfaces. By building up thick layers of pumice, paint, gel medium and pigment sticks, I create an uneven, textured surface found in nature. Uneven and crude, forever shifting between rough and slick, dark and light. My earthy backgrounds are a combination of scumbling and impasto, another duality symbolizing nature. On the final layer, bright colors force the elements they embody to stand off the background, creating a powerful tension in my works.
