Although we need rules and guidance, wise human behavior cannot be enforced from the outside. It has to be the individual's choice, become a need, an inspiration. Art is a powerful way to awaken this need, to acknowledge and identify it, to give a glimpse of something that is beyond common understanding. I explore making art that is a rearrangement of familiar or common materials into something that surprises or confuses us into looking at life differently.
Everything is made from where and what we were, where and what we are. We have family, chosen family and wider communities, we have our histories, our cultures and memories to combine and recombine to build our societies and our futures.
I use complexity in texture and passion in color. I acknowledge confusion with ambiguity. I find the fragile commonality in humanity's diverse histories by seeing magnificence in ordinary things.
