Though partially based upon a craftsman I saw in Silver Dollar City, The Woodworker is also a tribute to my civil engineering father who found pleasure in creating furniture in wood. He even prepared all the mahogany boards I use for my painting. During his final illness, the first thing he asked me when he was able to speak was if I needed any more boards. Note: The drawing will be shipped from Texas, not France.
Artist Bio: From her initial art exhibition in 1972, Ann James Massey's intricate wax pencil drawings have received recognition and won numerous awards in national and international competitions, as well as being reproduced in dozens of books and magazines (including The Artist Magazine, American Artist and International Artist). In 1990, she started complimenting her drawings with equally detailed oil paintings (on mahogany boards utilizing old masters' techniques) that have followed the same international award-winning path. Massey relocated from her hometown of El Paso, Texas (where she still maintains a studio) to Paris, France in 1994. In 2003, she was chosen as one of the initial 34 artists selected for The Art Renewal Center's Living Masters Gallery. Her work is in collections in France, England, Russia, Mexico and the US. Despite the illusion of tight realism, Massey's work is drawn freehand without any mechanical or reproductive means.
