I was standing at the overlook in Blowing Rock, NC one summer evening and was awed by the atmospheric color and light that sprayed across the mountains and valleys. It was as though the sun was spreading its veil of color like a cool summer blanket across that wide expanse saying goodnight. I had to paint that feeling and feel as though I succeeded. It's one of my favorites. I added the birds to further enhance the story of this piece which has been awarded second place and honorable mention in regional competitions.
Artist Bio: My work so far has been rewarded with a growing resume that continues to receive higher recognition every year. I was recently awarded Honorable Mention in the international PleinAir Salon Magazine competition for February and April 2023. My work can be found in private collections across the United States and, in solo and group exhibitions. I consider these recent awards and, memberships in prestigious organizations such as the Oil Painters of America, American Women Artists, and the American Artists Professional League to be affirmations along my art journey.
I have set my mark for mastery of light and atmosphere and will always be a student in my second career having retired from practicing pharmacy in 2016 to start painting full-time as a professional artist in 2019.
