"Portrait of a Young Black Man" by Pamela Jennings, Brooklyn, NY
Painting: Oil on Linen
sight size: 11 X 14
framed: 17 x 21
Exhibits & Awards: This portrait was produced for the 2020 grant winners exhibit at the Art Student League of NY.
This work was created under special circumstances, the pandemic! I could not work with models directly because of fear of getting covid. So, this painting was based on a photograph. Painting from photographs is something that I said I would never do.
Artist Bio: Realist artist Pamela Jennings lives in Brooklyn, NY. She has a PHD in Clinical Psychology (George Washington University) an MFA in painting and drawing (CUNY: Brooklyn College) and an interdisciplinary office for Psychoanalysis and Art. Pam studied at the Art League in Alexandria Virginia where she worked with Richard Weaver and Robert Liberace (1994 – 2000). She continued to study realism painting at the Art Students League of New York. She worked with Leonid Gervits (2011 – 2019) and Robin Smith (2019 to current). In 2019 Pam won the Art Student League’s Doreta Kesson Masterton Grant for realism which made it possible for her to add print making to her repertoire. Pam’s interdisciplinary art is a kind of found abstraction because she creates chance imagery that is ambiguous like in the Rorschach Inkblot test. However, people tend to perceive realism images in these abstractions making them double as found realism. WWW.PAMJENNINGSART.COM
