  Artist Bio: An Observational Realist, Ellen's primary work has its source in the urban scene. This scene of a tourist market in Florence, Italy, offered the opportunity to lovingly paint the timeless architecture that embraces the scene, and adapts, to the sale of Italian mementos to people inside the shop, and the typical sight of those who use the steps to take a moment to watch the world go by.
  Ellen Lea Strier's interest in the figure/people on the street, is complemented by having been an Architectural Renderer -- this painting is one of a series of watercolors of streets in Rome, Portofino and Camoglie. She is a member the California Watercolor Association, AAPL, American Impressionist Society, and the Catherine Lorillard Wolf Art Club. She earned her BFA from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY, and continued at the California Art Institute (1982-1991) in the study of the Academic Figure and Impressionist Color and her work is a synthesis of the two. Her career has spanned many aspects of art and design, but focusing on painting and drawing for several decades remains her unwavering passion.
