Artist Bio: Ms. Smits is Vice President of the Art League of New Britain and a painting instructor there. She is adjunct faculty in the Graphic Design program of the Fine Arts department at Manchester Community College. Kathleen has been teaching painting and drawing for over 20 years at a number of schools and venues. Her landscape paintings are in private collections in the USA, Canada and Australia. Her work has been accepted into numerous regional and national exhibitions. She studies the Hudson River School body of artworks extensively as well as the work of Maxfield Parrish, Camille-Corot, and Asian art. She studied painting with a number of nationally recognized artists including James Stegall who was a nationally recognized landscape painter and conservator. Kathleen's compositions are noted for bringing a sense of peace to the viewer.
