18th century, the broad section well carved with two gentlemen and ladies in a garden surrounded by rocks and a pine tree, the reverse with a long poem, cyclical date jichou zouyue, seal mark wenjian, minor age cracks,

The wispy clouds are akin to those in underglaze blue or in red on famille verte Chongzheng or Kangxi porcelain.
Literature: For a bitong with similar treatment of pine trees from the collection of Soame Jenyns, see 'Chinese Art', 1963, pl.197, another with comparable trees and dated to Kangxi, was with Solveig and Anita Gray, illustrated in their 'Catalogue', nd, number 72. A third, with the same handling of branches and needles, was with Sydney Moss, 1988, illustrated in the 'Catalogue', no. 24, where it is attributed to ‘Probably Chia-ting work’.
