Two oil on canvas, both presumably signed 'R. Palmer Pixt' and dated 'July 25, 1840' on the reverse, lined. Both 34 1/2 x 28 in., 43 x 36 1/2 in. Note: Members of the Bowne family lived in Flushing, NY from the 17th through the 20th Centuries. John Bowne expanded the Anglo-Dutch house, now called The Bowne House, in 1669 and again in 1680 as his family expanded. The house is now The Bowne House Historical Society and is the best-preserved example of this vernacular architecture in the country. The family's genealogical tree is documented in Edith King Wilson's book Bowne Family of Flushing, Long Island.
