As a part of the Design from 1860 to 1910 sale, we are pleased to offer the Collection of Barry R. Harwood, Curator of Decorative Arts at the Brooklyn Museum and Adjunct Professor at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum/Parsons School of Design’s master’s program in the History of Decorative Arts. Harwood, along with his husband Joseph V. Garry, formed the collection while decorating their country house, Thornside. A true labor of love, the interiors of their country getaway were decorated following the tenets of the Aesthetic Moment and were featured in an article in The Magazine Antiques. Small Needlework Runner, 4 ft. 8 1/2 x 17 1/2 in.
Metallic Embroidered Blue Velvet Table Cover with tassels, 28 in. x 28 in.
Floral Embroidered Blue Velvet Panel, 4 ft. 8 1/2 x 22 1/4 in.
Art Nouveau Designed Fabric Panel, 4 ft. 8 in. x 32 in. with a notch cut out.
Blue Velvet Lotus Embroidered Panel, 4 ft. 11 in. x 15 in.
Embroidered Crown Wool Panel with Tassels, 12 in. x 22 in.
Neo-gothic Designed Fabric Panel, 5 ft. 2 in. x 3 ft.
Together with a miscellaneous group of smaller fabric samples.
Condition
The table cover with scattered staining, general wear and trim separation along the edges. The green fabric panel with fraying along the edges with minor scattered stains and wear. The small runner is not backed, minor staining, fraying at the ends and wear. The small blue velvet table cover with staining, wear and losses to the tassels. The floral blue velvet panel in good condition with scattered wear. The Art Nouveau style fabric panel in good condition with minor staining and uneven frayed ends. The blue velvet lotus panel with scattered staining, frayed at the ends with wear. The tasseled crown panel in good condition with wear. The Neo-gothic style fabric panel with scattered staining and slight wear. There is no further information for this lot, sold as is.
