16 x 12 in., (frame).
Note: Aubert Henri Joseph Parent (Cambrai 1753 - Valenciennes 1835) was an architect, draughtsman and engraver who specialized in producing virtuoso sculpted panels, often of floral subjects. He first came to prominence in 1777 when King Louis XVI accepted one of his panels as a gift and placed it in his dining room at Versailles. Parent received a state grant to travel to Rome for study between 1784-88. Two signed limewood panels by Parent of allegorical subjects incorporating vases of flowers - An Allegory of Mortality (1789) and An Allegory of the Constitution of 1791 (1791) - are in the Getty Museum, Los Angeles. His work is also represented in the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris.
Age separations along the edge of the frame with very minor losses to the carving. Scattered staining. Nicely carved and generally in good condition considering age.
Notwithstanding this report or any discussion concerning condition of a lot, all lots are offered and sold "as is" in accordance with our conditions of sale.
