- Lot Description
Etching in colors on grey wove paper, 1982, signed in pencil, numbered 42/75.
15 x 11 in. (sheet), 20 x 16 in. (frame).
Note: The title of this print references two of the key associations that are central themes in Beuys art. In 1943, while serving in the German army, Beuys' airplane was shot down on the Russian Front where it crashed in the mountains of Crimea. He was eventually rescued by a nomadic tribe who brought him back to life by rubbing his body with fat, his head with honey, and wrapping him in felt blankets. Beuys would use fat, felt and honey in his work throughout his career, both in sculpture and in his multiples. The ideas of death and rebirth, suffering and redemption are central themes in Beuys' work.
