- Lot Description
The bust, 34 1/2 x 27 1/2 in.
Note: Caracalla was a Roman Emperor from 198 to 217 AD and a member of the Severen Dynasty. He was the eldest son of Emperor Septimus Severus. Caracalla ruled jointly with his father from 198-211 AD and alone until 217 AD when he was assassinated. His principal achievements were his colossal Baths in Rome and the Edict of 212 when he gave Roman citizenship to all free inhabitants of the empire. His reign contributed to the downfall and decay of the empire. He has often been regarded as one of the most blood thirsty tyrants in Roman history.
Condition
The bust in good overall condition with minor nicks and wear throughout. A few old repairs to the bust, socle and columnar pedestal.
Notwithstanding this report or any discussion concerning condition of a lot, all lots are offered and sold "as is" in accordance with our conditions of sale.
