J. Daniel Hud, Independence Day 2016, Kyiv, Ukraine
Description: After Maidan, the Ukrainian government created a new police force with new uniforms and conduct to reform and replace their older Soviet-styled Militsiya which had become synonymous with corruption. The man in front of the parade wears the older uniform and would have been called a Militsiya officer until the year of this picture, when the reforms changed their title to "Police." His outfit is a marker of the transition as he has the patches of the new reform on his older Militsiya uniform. The then rapidly modernizing Ukrainian army marches behind him on Independence Day.
