William Wyman (1922-1980) Studio Pottery Slab Vase, Boston, Massachusetts, c. 1965, slab-built rectangular vase decorated with the photographic image of a young woman of color on one side and possibly a Japanese village with a mountain in the distance, artist signed, ht. 7 1/2, wd. 9, dp. 1 3/4 in.
Note: In 1957, Wyman received his BS in Education from Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, Massachusetts followed by his MA from Columbia University, New York, in 1951. In 1953 he attended New York State College of Art, Alfred University, Alfred, New York. In 1962 he co-founded Herring Run Pottery with Michael Cohen, East Weymouth, Massachusetts. Wyman is well-known for a series of stoneware slab built vessels often covered with sgraffito cartoons, poems or other contemporary phrases.

Condition: Firing crack at bottom, probably in the making and repaired in studio.
