William Henry Howe (American, 1846-1929)
Woodlands. Signed "William H Howe N.A." l.l. Signed "William H Howe N.A." l.l. Oil on panel, 10 3/8 x 13 3/4 in., framed. Condition: Surface accretions, panel with a subtle raised area in the middle, staining to the surface of the reverse along the right side. Oil on panel, 10 3/8 x 13 3/4 in. (26.5 x 34.8 cm), framed.Condition
Condition: Framed dimensions are 16 1/2 x 19 1/2 x 2 3/8 in.
Under UV examination there is no current pigment fluorescence. There is an area in the center where the paint surface is slightly irregular when seen in raking light, which may suggest some older conservation in that section.
Although the surface seems pretty clean, the painting would probably brighten with a cleaning.
