Two Framed Landscapes:Arthur Cook Henshaw (American, 1877-1951), Woodland Pond in Spring, signed "AC Henshaw" l.r., oil on canvas, 16 x 20 in.;
Attributed to Alice Wilmarth Thompson Busing (American, 1898-1973), Summer View with Winding Dirt Path, unsigned, inscribed "Mrs. Busing/Bronxville Class" on the reverse, oil on canvasboard, 14 x 18 in. Condition: Both with accretions and surface grime, possible varnish discoloration.
Provenance: Both works descended in the family of the artist Arthur Cook Henshaw.
N.B. Although unconfirmed, it is conceivable that Alice W. Busing created this landscape in a class being taught by A.C. Henshaw in Westchester, New York, and as the landscape descended in the Henshaw family, it was assumed over the years that it was their forebear's own unsigned work.
