- Lot Description
Two Blue Transfer Spitting Cups, England, c. 1800-1825, a two-piece handled spitting cup with lid printed in medium blue underglaze in two variations of the Two Temples II pattern: the lid with Two Temples II, Variation Broseley, and the cup with Two Temples II, Variation Temple, molded handle, funnel-shaped lid, marked with a blue printed “N,” ht. 2 3/4, dia. 4 1/4; and a Spode earthenware spitting box printed in blue underglaze with the Bridge I pattern, printed workman’s mark (Copeland mark WMT24), ht. 3 3/4, dia. 4 1/4 in.
Provenance: The Zeller Collection.Condition
Condition: Two-piece spitting cup: Very good condition with a minor firing mark on the inside of the lid and a 1.5 inch hairline. A tiny chip is found on the rim of the cup.
Spode spitting cup: Very good condition no evidence of damage or repairs.
