Six-piece Jean Puiforcat .950 Silver Tea and Coffee Service, Paris, c. 1925, each with squat, concave-paneled bodies with delicate floral and scroll motifs to the handles and spouts, kettle-on-stand with a burner, teapot, coffeepot, covered sugar, and waste bowl, kettle-on-stand ht. 9 3/4 in., approx. 128.3 troy oz., together with a silver-plated tray.
N.B. A copy of the original 1928 receipt from Puiforcat accompanies the lot. Jean-Emile Puiforcat (1897-1945) was a French silversmith, designer and sculptor. After serving in World War I, he joined the family firm of silversmiths, and began working independently after 1922. He was a prolific exhibitor, known for his simple geometric forms offset by materials like hardstone and ivory. This particular service is very similar to an example in the Metropolitan Museum, New York, which utilizes lapis lazuli (accession number: 23.177.1ab).
Estimate $12,000-18,000
