Silver-inlaid Bronze Sundial, Angbu Ilgu, Korea, 19th century, semi-globular form, with flanged rim, inscribed with Korea's traditional divisions and subdivisions of the year and title reading "Angbu Ilgu," all inlaid in silver around the rim, a gnomon inside the bowl, the three separately cast cabriole legs, decorated with a dragon and cloud design in relief, mounted on three grooved base, ht. 5 7/8, rim dia. 12 3/4 in, wt. 24 lbs.
Provenance: Collection of the Wuppertal Watch Museum, founded in 1958 by Georg Abeler; purchased by the present owner in the early 2000s directly from Jurgen Abeler, the founder's son and director of the museum until his death in 2010.
