Set of Six Classical Carved Mahogany Chairs, Boston, Massachusetts, c. 1820-25, comprising five side chairs and one armchair, the tablet crests centering foliate spryas flanked by scrolls, above similar splats, on trapezoidal seats joining turned and carved front legs, refinished, armchair ht. 33 3/4, seat ht. 17, side chairs ht. 32 1/2, seat 16 3/4 in.

the five visible seat frames are or were affixed to the rails with old wood screws (some of the screws are now missing). All chairs have new screws into the glue blocking, though many glue blocks appear old. Except where otherwise noted, the only wear to the chairs consists of small losses and dings to carvings or turnings. Chair #1, Armchair, arm cushions are slightly loose; Chair #2, nothing to report; Chair #3, extra pin/plug to back of tablet where it meets stile; Chair #4, losses to pine seat frame, corner block and top section of right front leg replaced; Chair #5, 1/2 inch chip to one ring turning at right front; Chair #6, overupholstered in red, crack/repair to left edge of splat, repair/restoration to left front corner block.
