A colleague of Baron Haussmann, Davioud was instrumental in the design of pavilions, railings, gates, and benches in Parisian parks that have become emblems of the city. He also designed the circus and panorama for the Champs Élysées and four large fountains for Paris: Saint-Michel, Boulevard Saint-Michel (1858), Château d'Eau (1867-74), l'Observatoire (1870-75), and Place du Théâtre-Français (1872-74).
