N.B. As a child Pentti Sammallahti's grandmother, the photographer Hildur Larsson, took him to the seminal exhibition
The Family of Man when it traveled to Helsinki. Enamored with photographs ever since, he began making them at the young age of eleven. In a life-long career he has published thirteen books and portfolios and has works in the collection of major collecting institutions such as the Getty Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Stedelijk Museum, among others.
Regardless of the location of his photographs, they often explore humanity's impact on the landscape. He has a strong interest in the relationships that society has with animals and particularly dogs, which frequently appear in many of his expertly crafted prints.
