Condition
Condition: Frame dimensions: 20 x 23 1/4 x 1 in.
Although the frame was not opened during cataloging, the overall condition appears good.
Very slight rippling to the sheet. When held up to the light, one can see a partial watermark "HANDMADE" and 'WHAT..." along the right vertical edge of the front (as framed). There appears to be some minor discoloration or very pale staining more visible in the u.l. corner of the back in the sketch of the boxers. There is also a bit of tape visible along the u.l. edge of the back. Also on the back, there is a lighter colored vertical line that crosses through the cigar of the piano player and finishes at the top of his jacket. This could represent a shallow abrasion, but there is no clear disturbance to the paper fibers visible at this time.
The watercolor is actually signed twice on the front - clearly as "PAUL SAMPLE" in pencil in the l.r. corner and again very faintly "Paul Sample" in what appears to be pencil script in the l.l. corner and which may have been erased leaving a gently abraded, slightly lighter area.
Included in the condition photos are three "bonus" photos showing the watercolor lit from behind allowing you to see both sides at once.
