Pair of Jean E. Puiforcat (French, 1897-1945) Silver-mounted Fumed Glass Vases, Paris, c. 1936, silver rims, dark aubergine glass set on short stem with stepped round foot, stamped maker's mark "E P" with knife in diamond, stamped mark "Jean E. Puiforcat," and stamped guarantee mark, ht. 14 1/2 in.
Provenance: Property of a New York collector.
Note: Puiforcat was a French silversmith, sculptor, and designer. Miller's Antiques Encyclopedia calls Puiforcat the "most important French Art Deco silversmith." Work by Puiforcat is held in the collections of the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, National Design Museum, and the Victoria & Albert Museum.
Condition
Condition: One with tight crack in glass running from rim almost to base and running towards the mouth for a few inches. Slight dent to the silver mount. Slight play at join of stem and stepped base. The other with short inclusion at the rim most likely in the making.
