Newport Block and Shell Mahogany Tall Clock, David Williams, Rhode Island, c. 1800, fluted urn and flame finials above the double molded arch hood, freestanding fluted columns flanking the roman numeral painted iron "Wilson" dial marked "David Williams New Port," with raised gilt floral-decorated spandrels and arch, single-piece block and shell-carved waist door, applied raised paneled base, all resting on ogee bracket feet, eight-day time and hour-strike movement with half-moon cut-out plates, regulated by two iron weights, and a wooden rod and brass bob pendulum, ht. 96 in. with center finial.
Condition
Condition: hood with newspaper glued to top dated Saturday October 21, 1820, center finial detaches from plinth, other two finials flames detach from urn, period waist door hinges have been reset, case has patches for resetting the waist door hinges, dial matt constructed of mahogany, two-piece pine back boards, bottom section and feet appear to be later addition.
