New England Military Musket, c. 1765-75, of British Land Pattern-style, with 37 1/8 in., .72 caliber unmarked octagon to round barrel; double bridle American-made slightly curved and convex surface lock with short pointed tail, rounded hammer with pierced top jaw screw and, pointed steel spring; cherry stock with plateau carved around the breech plug tang, brass furniture including butt plate with long stepped tang, Richard Wilson-type trigger guard, American-made Land Pattern-style sheet brass side plate, four sheet brass rammer pipes with the upper pipe being tapered, and a crude brass nose band; steel rammer with button head and coarse filed jag at the end, overall lg. 52 1/2 in.
Condition
Condition: Iron toned to a deep brown; lock has minor pitting to tail, deep wear on the steel, and an old weld repair to the sear, side nails are old, but may not be original; stock has scattered dings and dents, evidence of wood restoration at the tail end of the lock mortice, crack at the breech extending to the upper side nail hole, right side of forestock has stabilized cracks were the wood meets the barrel and a narrow six-inch section of wood restoration, left side of forestock has a narrow 13 1/2 in. section of wood restoration where the stock meets the barrel, and the foreward 3 1/8 in. of the forestock has been restored; brass is toned to a deep yellow, there is a very small piece of restoration to the front end of the side plate.
