The Masonite backing is finished with a shiny blue surface. There is a third paper label affixed to the backing which is inscribed "JHH Personal/ JHH/ dry clean/dull varnish" and is marked also with the letter "A." The back of the Masonite is also inscribed directly in black "P 344.74" with the letter "A" beneath it.
The accretion noted in the condition report is about the size of a nail head (1/8 inch diameter and dark in color), and its surface is raised above the surrounding area. It is located in the upper right quadrant, 4 3/4 inches in and 6 inches down from the upper right corner. The subtle horizontal imperfections consist of two subtle "lines" in the varnish which are about 3 inches apart at the left edge of the work and converge at the right side of the work. There is a second set of vertical, parallel "lines" coming down from the u.r. corner. These are visible in raking light.
