Joseph De Martini (American, 1896-1984) East Side, Sunday. Signed "Joseph DE MARTINI" l.r., identified on labels from William Macbeth, Inc., New York, the Springville High School Art Association, Inc., Springville, Utah, and the Addison Gallery, Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts, affixed to the reverse, and with a stamp and inventory number "A901" from William Macbeth, Inc, on the stretcher. Oil on board, 16 1/2 x 23 1/2 in., framed. Condition: Retouch or varnish inconsistency at the u.l. corner, surface grime.
Provenance: Currier Museum of Art, Manchester, New Hampshire, sold to benefit the acquisitions fund.
Estimate $700-900 Frame bears a label from the American Federation of Arts Traveling Exhibition, indicating that the frame was once on a different painting by De Martini, "Portrait of Luisi, 1934."
