We are grateful to Jonathan C. Sproul for providing the following information about the artist: Born Jessie May Cheney in Amherst, Massachusetts. Art student and daughter of Amherst College vocal teacher George S. Cheney (1834-1902). Married in 1894, to music teacher, piano salesman and organist Almon J. Fairbanks (1869-1936) of Boston. Exhibited Copley Society, Boston, and Gloucester Society of Artists. Resided Cambridge, Newton in 1920s, Rockport in 1929, and Boston in the 1930s-40s.
