Japanese School, 20th Century
Three Etchings: Child with Trompe L'Oeil Landscape; Nude in Profile with Allegorical Scene; and Angel with Wings. All numbered, titled, and signed in the bottom margin. Etching with aquatint on paper, image sizes to 13 1/4 x 14 3 1/16, sheet sizes to 19 7/8 x 22 1/4 in., unframed.
Condition: Good.
Donated by Suhyung Kim, Director Pro-tem of Skinner's Asian Art department: "I was attracted to the three Japanese prints for their visual connotations. One is depicting a young girl (or boy) with penetrating eyes against a landscape that reminds me of my childhood hometown far away. From the others, each with a naked woman portrayed against an imaginary world of the western atmosphere, I could feel the vulnerability and the isolation of an Asian woman in foreign culture.
I donated these prints for the superb techniques of the artist handling the medium. I thought that the prints could inspire the aspiring artists of the future to work harder to hone their skills, so suitable for the cause of this event."Condition
