Hand-painted "Les Mysteres De Paris" Wallpaper Panel, France, second half 19th century, worked in pastel and gouache showing a multi-figural scene from the renowned serial novel by Eugene Sue, (minor creasing and losses), 51 1/2 x 17 3/4 in., framed.
Note: The Mysteries of Paris was one of the first novels published serially in France, and was a huge success. It spawned countless imitations throughout Europe and America, and has been adapted for the stage and screen.
