  Group of Modern Studio Ceramics and a Book, works by international ceramic artists including Lincoln Mayne, Maryam Riazi, and Heather Rosenman, with the book Arlene Shechet: All at Once, published in conjunction with her major museum survey at the ICA Boston, 2015, presenting more than two decades of sculpture in the artist's characteristically diverse assortment of materials, book ht. 12 1/2 x wd. 9 1/2, small black and white cup ht. 3 1/4, dia. 3 3/4, blue/gray cup ht. 4 1/2, dia. 3 5/8, gray cup ht. 4 1/2, dia. 3 3/8, blue/black bowl ht. 3 3/4, dia. 8 3/8 in. Donated by Kristina Harrison, designer at Skinner: "Texture, form, color, medium, technique, purpose - while works on paper and photography are my background, there is so much to learn from every medium. I have spent my life 'looking' and the arts change how you see, and who you are." Note: Maryam Riazi spent most her young adult life in the quiet city of Shiraz, known for its poets, philosophers and the sweet smell of orange blossoms. Growing up hiking in mountains and swimming in springs, nature played a strong role in shaping her understanding of the world. Maryam is a self-taught ceramic artist. Inspiration from nature and all of its creatures, mountains, and plants integrate themselves throughout her work. To her, all created objects should be worthy of the physical space they occupy, and so her fingers craft with precision, love and patience, easing the cool and earthy material into its next form. Maryam studied Fashion Design at Otis Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles and later on transferred and graduated from Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. She has pursued other artistic interests in jewelry making, silversmithing, casting and weaving at various times in her life. Heather Rosenman creates ceramic vessels and sculptures rich in form and texture. A New York native, currently based in Los Angeles, she studied at The Cooper Union and The Basel School of Design in Switzerland. Her collections are informed by a deep appreciation of ceramics, modern art and the history of design. Her designs emphasize minimalism by simplifying forms to their organic essence, featuring graphic surfaces and lava glaze developed through experimentation. Inspired by ancient forms, industrial design and graphic design, she's driven to combine a primitive aesthetic with modern sensibilities. Lincoln Mayne is a NYC-based ceramic artist focused on the human condition. In an age where technology has become our way of communicating in the world, Lincoln is drawn to the idea of more personal communication through the traditional art form of hand-thrown ceramics.
