Unsigned, identified on labels affixed to the reverse and in documentation accompanying the work,the painting a contemporary replica by the artist of a painting now at the Historical Society of Beverly, Massachusetts.
Oil on panel, 32 x 25 3/4 in., in a molded giltwood and gesso frame.
Condition: Minor retouch.

Note: "Moses Brown was a son of Isaac and Mary (Balch) Brown of Waltham, Massachusetts. He was graduated from Harvard College in 1768, served in the Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1777, and was at the Battle of Trenton. After the war, he was in business in Beverly, Massachusetts, in partnership with his brother-in-law, Israel Thorndike... He was a benefactor of the Andover Theological School" (Park, p. 181).
