George Nelson (1908-1986) for Herman Miller Comprehensive Storage System (CSS) Wall Furniture, Zeeland, Michigan, c. 1963, walnut, metal, consisting of three cabinets, two work surfaces, twenty-one shelves, eight uprights, miscellaneous extra parts, and a the original installation manual, desk with shelf, ht. 20, wd. 31, dp. 13, dp. open 31; five-drawer cabinet, ht. 14 3/4, wd. 31, dp. 18 1/2; cabinet with two file drawers, ht. 14 3/4, wd. 31, dp. 18 1/2; work surfaces, ht. 3/4, wd. 31, dp. 18 1/2; shelves, ht. 3/4, wd. 32, dp. 12; uprights, adjustable ht. 96 to 102, wd. 1, dp. 15 in.
Note: Nelson was an American industrial designer. While lead designer for the Herman Miller furniture company, Nelson and his design studio, George Nelson Associates, designed 20th-century modernist furniture. Ray and Charles Eames, Harry Bertoia, Richard Schultz, Donald Knorr, and Isamu Noguchi all worked for Herman Miller, under Nelson's supervision. He is considered a founder of American modernist design.Condition
